Use Equal House on your computer
What the desktop version at app.equal.house adds, what it leaves to the phones (Kid Zone, reminders, the app lock), and the keyboard shortcut to find anything.
Where to find it
In a web browser, at app.equal.house
Equal House on a computer is the same app, laid out for a big screen. It has the same features as the phone app, and the same plan: a Free household plans three days ahead, and Pro covers the phones and the computer alike. If you haven’t signed in yet, see sign in on your computer.
Finding your way around
A sidebar takes the place of the phone’s tabs: Tasks, Calendar, Bric, Meal planner and Shopping list, then a Family group with People, Documents, House notes, Pets and Parties, and More and Settings at the foot. New task and New event are at the top.
Search with “/”
Press / anywhere outside a text box, or Ctrl+K (Cmd+K on a Mac), or click Search in the sidebar. Type what you’re after, such as “pocket money”, “boiler” or “school”, and it finds the place in the app: every row of the More menu, every tab and every setting. Use the arrow keys and Enter to open one, and Esc to close.
It finds places, not your entries. To find an event, use the search in the calendar, which looks a month back and a year ahead: see find your way around the calendar.
Laid out for a big screen
- Tasks is a list, with the job you click open beside it, and a strip at the top showing this week’s split and the Fairness Score.
- The calendar is a week grid, with an all-day row, a line for now, a mini month and the week’s busiest day.
- The meal planner is a board of days and meals: drag a meal to another day. The plan’s shopping sits beside it.
- The shopping list is in aisles, side by side, with an add box at the top.
- People, Documents, Pets, Parties, Safe Space and My Journal are lists with the chosen one open beside them.
- Settings has its sections down the left.
- The Family Wall is a full-screen overview of the family’s day: see the Family Wall day overview.
What stays on the phone
- Kid Zone. A child’s board only opens on a phone or tablet, where they can hold it. On the computer, More → Kid Zone shows each child’s jobs and pocket money, but there is no board to hand over. See set up Kid Zone.
- Reminders and notifications arrive on your phone, not the computer.
- The app lock (fingerprint or face) is a phone setting.
- Recording a voice note in Safe Space needs the phone. One recorded on a phone still plays on the computer.
- My Journal on a computer is kept in that browser only, separate from the diary on your phone, and has no daily reminder. See keep a private diary.
Pro on a computer
Pro is for the whole household on every device, so if anyone in the family already has it, the computer has it too. To buy it in the browser, see buy Pro on your computer.
