Review what came in

The Emails tab of Waiting for You is where anything Equal House has read out of your email waits for a person. Forwarded emails and parsed newsletters land here rather than going straight into the family’s calendar.

1. More → Waiting for You, then Emails. Each tab shows how many are waiting.
2. Read each card: what was found, and when.
3. Tap Add to take it as it is, Edit to add it and go straight into the editor, or the bin to discard it.

Adding and editing

Edit opens the same editor as a new task or a new event, with every field. Nothing about it is special to the inbox: you choose who a task is for by tapping faces, exactly as when you add one yourself. A task nobody has been chosen for says under the faces who can do it, such as “Any grown-up can do it”, because an email about a school form is usually a job for an adult.

An email rarely says who is going, so an event from the inbox starts with Everyone ticked. If it is only for some of you, tap Everyone to clear it and tap the faces of the people it is for.

After Add, a note along the bottom offers Edit and Show. Show opens an event on its day in the calendar, and opens a task on the Tasks tab.

Already in your planner?

If it looks like something you already have, we ask before adding it again. That means the same event on the same day (including a day your school’s calendar already shows, or a bank holiday), or a task already on your list or ticked off in the last month.

• The card says Looks like this is already in your planner, and Show takes you to it.
• Add and Edit ask Already in your planner? first, and say what you already have and when. Discard this one throws the new copy away. Add anyway adds it all the same. Tap outside the question to decide later.
• If the same email arrived twice, both cards say The same suggestion is here twice: add one and discard the other. Add one, and the other then asks, with Discard this one ready.
• After a discard, the note along the bottom says Discarded and offers Undo for a few seconds, in case it was not the same thing after all.

It goes on the words and the date, so something reworded a lot can still slip through, and two different things with similar names on the same day will ask once. Nothing is ever refused.

Why there is a queue at all

Everything in this app is shared. An event that appears on the family calendar is an event four people might rearrange their day around, so anything Equal House inferred rather than was told gets a person’s eyes on it first.

Clearing it

Discarding is not destructive — it drops a suggestion, not the email it came from. Tap Undo on the note that follows to put it straight back. After that, if you discard something you needed, forward it again.
