FamilyWall is a strong, broad family app, and it reviews well in the UK stores. If what you want is everything in one place — the calendar, a family chat, photos, a budget and knowing where everyone is — it is hard to beat.
The Equal House app overlaps with it on the everyday parts: a shared calendar, the shopping list, meals, children’s jobs and family documents. Where it goes further is meal plans from 6,031 recipes, kids’ chores with pocket money and their own sign-in, the UK school run, and a Fairness Engine that shares the household work fairly between the grown-ups. Where FamilyWall is ahead
Be clear about these before anything else, because each one could decide it:
- Location sharing. Equal House does not do this at all. If knowing where the teenager is matters to you, that is a deciding difference.
- A family chat built in, with audio and video messages in Premium.
- Photo albums and shared media.
- A family budget with spending limits. Equal House’s money side is the children’s pocket money.
- A web app. FamilyWall works in a browser; Equal House is a phone and tablet app.
- The free calendar has no stated limit on how far ahead it looks. Equal House’s free plan plans 3 days ahead.
- Calendar sync. FamilyWall Premium syncs with Google and Outlook. Equal House’s Calendar Sync (Pro) only shows a linked calendar read-only, and the Equal House calendar can’t be exported.
Where Equal House is ahead
- Pocket money and children’s rewards. Chores and routines pay stars and pocket money into Spend, Save, Give and Invest jars.
- Children have their own sign-in, with a picture code and an optional PIN on a device a grown-up has approved. FamilyWall’s privacy policy says the service is not intended for children under 13.
- Family documents on the free plan. FamilyWall’s are part of Premium.
- AI that does the typing. Magic Add turns a photo of a school letter into events and tasks on every plan (with a monthly allowance). Bric, the in-app assistant, email forwarding and a Claude connector are part of Pro.
- The household work is shared fairly. Chores are weighted by effort, a live 0–100 Fairness Score shows how the grown-ups are sharing it, and Auto-Balance moves jobs to whoever has room.
- It costs less. Pro is £29.90 a year against £39.99 for FamilyWall Premium, and £2.99 a month against £4.99 on Google Play or £5.99 on the UK App Store.

- Meals. FamilyWall keeps recipes and, with Premium, plans meals onto a shopping list. Equal House plans meals from its own 6,031 recipes, sorts the shopping list into UK aisle order and shares the cooking out. On the free plan a meal plan covers 3 days; a full week needs Pro.
- School. FamilyWall Premium imports timetables by URL. Equal House sets up the school run from a directory of 30,654 UK schools (Pro). Term dates fill in for some schools; for most, you add the closures once.

Both are one subscription for the household rather than per person. FamilyWall Premium buys you more surface area — location, chat, media, a budget — and whether that is worth the difference depends on whether you would use any of it.

FamilyWall and Cozi have the same owner: In Tandem, the parent company OurFamilyWizard launched in September 2024. FamilyWall’s apps are published by Family & Co, in Paris.
How to switch from FamilyWall
- Bring the calendar across. In FamilyWall, generate the calendar’s iCal URL and paste it into More → Calendar Sync in Equal House (Pro): a read-only copy that keeps itself up to date. Or add the dates that matter as events.
- Re-create the lists and save the documents you need, one at a time, into Family Documents.
- Invite the family. Invite the other grown-ups and add the children; children sign in with a picture code, not an email.
- Keep FamilyWall for location or chat if you rely on them. Equal House does not replace those.

Is Equal House a good FamilyWall alternative in the UK?
It is if what you use FamilyWall for is the calendar, lists, meals and the children's jobs. The Equal House app adds meal plans from 6,031 recipes, kids' chores with pocket money and their own sign-in, the school run with a UK school directory, family documents on the free plan, and a Fairness Engine that shares the work between the grown-ups. Pro is £29.90 a year against £39.99 for FamilyWall Premium. FamilyWall is ahead if you want location sharing, a family chat, photo albums, a budget or a web app: Equal House has none of those.
Can I bring my FamilyWall calendar into Equal House?
Yes, as a read-only copy. In FamilyWall, open the Calendar, tap the gear icon, choose the calendar and tap Generate iCal URL, then copy the link. In the Equal House app, paste it into More → Calendar Sync, which is part of Pro. Changes made in FamilyWall show up when the link next refreshes, and you can't edit those events in Equal House.
Can I move my FamilyWall lists, recipes and documents?
Not automatically: we couldn't find an export for them in FamilyWall's help. Copy the lists across by hand, and save the documents you need one at a time, then add them to Family Documents in Equal House.
Does Equal House have a free trial like FamilyWall's?
There's no automatic trial, and the free plan is free for as long as you like. Families moving from another family app can claim 31 days of Equal House Pro with code SWITCH until 23:59 UK time on 31 March 2027: no card, nothing to cancel, it never turns into a subscription, and it works once per household, once per person and once per email address, limited to the first 10,000 households.
