Maple is closing: what UK families should move to

If you are here because Maple told you it is closing: yes, it is, and yes, you need somewhere to go before the end of the year.

What is happening

Maple’s own website, growmaple.com, says Maple has been acquired by Wander and will sunset on 31 December 2026. Until then your account and data stay available. After that, all data is permanently deleted, and the connections to Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, Outlook and TeamSnap end. Annual plans will not renew, and monthly plans run to 31 December.

Moving well before the end of December gives you time to check everything came across.

Save what you need first

Maple’s website asks families to move their data before the shutdown, but gives no step-by-step export. So, while Maple is still running:

• Your calendar. If Maple was syncing with Google, Apple or Outlook, those events are already in that calendar and survive the shutdown — check before you assume anything is lost. In Google Calendar on a computer, Settings → Import & export → Export downloads a copy. If Maple was not syncing, note or screenshot the next few months.
• Lists and repeating chores. The bin day, the medication, the every-third-Tuesday one. Screenshot or write them down.
• Recipes you want to keep.
• Anything with a date attached to a child: term dates, club times, kit days.
• Household notes: boiler codes, the wifi password, who fixed the shower.

Do not leave it to the last week of December: give yourself time to check everything came across.

What to look for in a replacement

Most people reach for the nearest shared calendar, and if a shared calendar is all Maple was doing for you, that is the right move.

But be honest about why you installed Maple. Some family apps record the work: a shared calendar and lists, so everyone can see what needs doing. Fewer try to share it out: to change who does what, not just show it. If you liked Maple for the second reason, a plain calendar will feel like a step down.

What Equal House does not do

You are about to move a family, so no second surprises:

• There is no direct Maple import. Moving means re-entering your repeating chores and linking your calendar. Budget an evening.
• It is a phone and tablet app, not a web app or a wall display, though the Family Wall view fills a spare tablet.

The honest recommendation

Try the free plan before you pay anyone anything, including us. Add your repeating chores, get the other grown-up to join, and look at the Fairness Score after a week. If the number tells you something you did not already know, that is the app working. If not, a plain shared calendar will serve you just as well.
