Cozi is the family organiser most people find first, and for good reason. It has been around for many years, it does the core job — one calendar, a shopping list, one family — reliably, and its free plan is a real product. If you are choosing between “some app” and “no app”, Cozi is a perfectly good answer.
The Equal House app covers the same ground and then goes further: a meal planner with 6,031 recipes, kids’ chores with pocket money and their own sign-in, the school run with a UK school directory, and a Fairness Engine that shares the household work fairly between the grown-ups. Where Cozi is ahead
- The free calendar looks further ahead. Cozi’s free plan shows 30 days. Equal House’s free plan plans 3 days ahead, rolling; looking further needs Pro.
- A web app. Cozi runs in a browser as well as on phones. Equal House is an iPhone, iPad and Android app only.
- More than one list. Cozi keeps separate named lists. Equal House has one shared shopping list and one shared task list.
- Calendar sync. Cozi says it syncs with Google, Outlook and Apple calendars. Equal House’s Calendar Sync (Pro) only shows a linked calendar read-only, and the Equal House calendar can’t be exported.
- Scale and track record. More years and more families, so more of the odd cases have already been found.

- No ads on any plan. Cozi’s free plan carries ads.
- Children have their own sign-in. A six-picture family code and an optional PIN, on a device a grown-up has approved, with no email or password. A Cozi family shares one account and a family password.
- Pocket money and children’s rewards. Chores and routines can pay stars and pocket money into Spend, Save, Give and Invest jars.
- The household work is shared fairly. Chores are weighted by effort, a live 0–100 Fairness Score shows how the grown-ups are sharing it, and Auto-Balance moves jobs to whoever has room.
- Family documents in shared or private folders, on the free plan.
- UK detail: a directory of 30,654 UK schools for the school run, bank holidays by nation, pounds, and UK helplines.

- Meals. Cozi has a recipe box and lets you plan dinners onto the calendar on its free plan; its AI meal planner is in Max. Equal House plans meals from its own 6,031 recipes, fills the shopping list in aisle order and shares the cooking out. On the free plan a meal plan covers 3 days; a full week needs Pro.
- AI. Cozi Max reads emails into events and plans meals with AI. In Equal House, Magic Add reads a photo or pasted text into events and tasks on every plan (with a monthly allowance), and Bric, the in-app assistant, email forwarding and a Claude connector are part of Pro.
- School. Cozi imports schedules from apps such as TeamSnap. Equal House sets up the school run from a UK school directory. Term dates fill in for some schools; for most, you add the closures once.
Price
Cozi publishes $39 a year for Gold and $79 a year for Max on its own site. The UK App Store lists Max at £79.99 a year, and several Gold prices side by side, from £29.00 to £59.99 — which usually means older plans still being honoured — so what a new UK subscriber pays for Gold is not something we can tell you reliably. Check Cozi’s price in your own app store before you decide.
Equal House Pro is £2.99 a month or £29.90 a year. Both are one subscription for the whole household, not per person.
Who owns Cozi
Cozi and FamilyWall have the same owner: In Tandem, the parent company OurFamilyWizard launched in September 2024, which also runs OurFamilyWizard and Custody Navigator. Worth knowing if you are choosing between the two of them.
How to switch from Cozi
- Bring the calendar across. Share your Cozi calendar as a Cozi URL and paste it into More → Calendar Sync in Equal House (Pro): a read-only copy that keeps itself up to date. Or add the dates that matter as events.
- Re-create the lists. Email yourself each Cozi list, then add the items to the shopping list or as tasks.
- Invite the family. Invite the other grown-ups and add the children; children sign in with a picture code, not an email.
- Keep Cozi running for a week or two while everyone gets used to the new app.

Is Equal House a good Cozi alternative in the UK?

Can I bring my Cozi calendar into Equal House?
Yes, as a read-only copy. In Cozi, open Settings, then Shared Cozi Calendars, switch All (or one person) to Shared, and copy the Cozi URL. In the Equal House app, paste it into More → Calendar Sync, which is part of Pro. Changes you make in Cozi show up when the link next refreshes, and you can't edit those events in Equal House. Or add the dates that matter as Equal House events instead.
Can I move my Cozi lists and recipes?
Not automatically. Cozi lets you email a list from its menu, so email yourself each list and add the items to Equal House's shopping list or as tasks. We couldn't find a recipe export in Cozi's help, so keep the recipes you love by hand, or look for them among the 6,031 in Equal House.
Does Equal House have a free trial?
There's no automatic trial, and the free plan is free for as long as you like. Families moving from another family app can claim 31 days of Equal House Pro with code SWITCH until 23:59 UK time on 31 March 2027: no card, nothing to cancel, it never turns into a subscription, and it works once per household, once per person and once per email address, limited to the first 10,000 households.
