Invite another adult
Share an invite link or code so a partner, co-parent or housemate can join your household on their own phone.
Where to find it
More → Your account → Add a family member
Equal House is not much use with one person in it. The whole point is a shared picture of the work, which needs at least two people looking at it.
First: are they already in the family?
If you added your partner as a member before they had the app, do not follow the steps below. They add a new person, and you would end up with two of them — one carrying half your chores and one carrying none. Instead, open the person from the people list on More → Your account and tap Share sign-in code. That links the member who is already there to their new login.
The steps below are for someone who is not in the household yet at all.
Send the invite
- Go to More → Your account.
- Tap Add a family member.
- Type their name. A name is required — nothing else on the screen has to be touched, because Adult and They’ll sign in themselves are already what the screen is set to.
- Tap Add & share sign-in code.
- On the sheet that opens, tap Share invite and send it however you already talk to them — WhatsApp, Messages, email.
Tapping the link opens Equal House if they have it, and otherwise takes them to a page offering both app stores. There is a code on the sheet as well, which they can type under Join a family if the link gets mangled in transit.
The code lasts 24 hours and works once — it belongs to the person you just added, and claims that one place in the household. If it lapses or goes astray, make another; there is no limit.
Who can do what
Everyone who joins as an adult can see and change the household’s tasks, calendar and children. The owner and admins additionally control the plan, the family name and who gets removed.
If they cannot see anything
Nothing here runs on email. The invite is a code, we send no message of our own, and there is no address to check theirs against — so there is nothing to verify about how they signed in. Check these instead, in order:
- Which family are they actually in? On their phone, More → Your account shows the family’s name under their own. If it is not yours, the code never landed — most often because they created a family of their own when they first signed in, rather than joining yours.
- Is the code still good? A code lasts 24 hours, and a per-person sign-in code works once. A link forwarded on the following day, or one that has already been tapped, simply will not take — nothing is wrong with their account. Make a fresh code and send that.
- Have they ended up in two families? The app shows the household they have belonged to longest and there is no switcher, so a co-parent in two households, or somebody who made a family before joining yours, sees the other one. Have them open Leave this family on the household they do not want — usually the empty one they made by accident — and yours takes its place.
One thing worth knowing when you re-send: the Join a family box, where a code is typed, is part of first-time setup and is gone once somebody has a family of their own. Send them the invite link rather than the bare code — tapping it joins them whatever state they are in.
